Do's and Don'ts when doing a data recovery:-
  • Do not write nothing to the drive you want to recover the data from! This includes installing programs or even booting from that drive.
  • Instead, attach the drive as a second (slave) drive to a working system. Install and run GetDataBack on the healthy system. Read the page about how to do a data recovery right.
  • If you suspect that your drive may have a physical problem or if you get read errors during the scan with GetDataBack, consider making an image of the drive first.
  • If your drive has severe physical problems, we strongly recommend that you refrain from all do-it-yourself data recovery attempts and send the drive to a specialized lab.
  • Scanning an external drive can be very time consuming, especially when using USB1. If possible, remove the drive from its enclosure and attach it directly to the internal IDE cable of your computer. Please search the Internet for help on how to do this.
